I still remember the day I discovered Matsidiso, it was after many Pinterest pins and never finding anything remotely close to what I see from overseas manufacturers. I always dreamt of being able to go to Italy or Spain to get my very own genuine leather, authentically handcrafted shoes!

But then out of nowhere, I came across this lovely lady on Instagram! Exactly my style(s) and what I’ve always wanted from a leather shoe – elegance and it looks sooo comfortable.  So I started dreaming and planning and a few days ago my wish was granted, I could get my very own pair of handcrafted, ethically made shoes right here on my doorstep in this collaboration with Matsidiso Shoes. Naturally, I have to share their beautiful story!

Their motto: CONNECTING SOULS THROUGH SOLES is true to what they stand for and do.

Each pair of Matsidiso shoes is an original, handcrafted product, ethically made by happy hearts and hands in Cape Town, South Africa.

I particularly love their name, being a Free State girl myself and familiar with the southern Sotho language, I appreciate the meaning behind the name: Matsidiso’s name is derived from Sotho, one of the native South African languages, meaning ‘comfort or peace after difficulty’. The name has great significance to our team and speaks on the resilience of South Africa, one of the most determined countries with an unwavering ability to find its way through hardship. The name Matsidiso is fitting of our brand because our one-of-a-kind handmade shoes are built to last, made for comfort, and meant to bless everyone that the shoes pass through (our local suppliers, our shoe crafters and of course, our customers!).

When I look for suppliers, I look for something unique but most of all I look for businesses who are really committed to making our country a better place by making it possible for people to work together. Matsidiso does this so well by being socially and environmentally responsible.  They are all about empowering and enriching the lives of their workers and uplifting their community.

Through a purchase of Matsidiso shoes, the buyer is connected to a community that extends past a simple transaction.  5% of profits from each shoe sold with go back into aiding our workers to live a life with a greater standard of living. Afterall, without our amazing employees, who are we?

They believe that handmade shoes can bring people back to people. Making shoes by hand is an artisan craft, and the art of craftsmanship and community has been lost is a world of quick-fix manufacturing.

With each pair purchased, we will be able to ACTUALLY impact the life of someone else in a positive way.

And this holds true, I wear my Golden Dineos with absolute pride and a genuine love and support for South African craftsmanship and people with heart and soul (sole)!
