On land, at sea, in forests and mountains, there is food all around us, we just have to open up our senses and reconnect.
When I saw this, I was immediately intrigued! I signed up! Definitely a delicious wild adventure!
Throughout our lives, we take long walks on the beach, explore a few rockpools and look into the distance, far-far over the horizon. But do we really know what is right there before our eyes? Do we understand the nutritious value of the creatures we so often pull-up our noses for?
My whole life changed after this workshop. I can never take another walk on the beach without noticing seaweeds as stinky but edible and nutritious sea plants, or the abundance of invasive mussel species. The most important lesson I take with me is sustainable harvesting.
Geared with my booties and mollusc permit, I was set to go! We spent the day foraging and enjoying wild food snacks. A three-course meal was prepared with our finds. I learnt how to prepare and preserve coastline wild foods.
Apart from the newly gained coastal knowledge I have once again walked away with a new found respect for our beautiful and abundant coastline. The awe-inspiring images of our beautiful Cape Point will stay with me forever (not long before I take Mish to her first coastal foraging workshop!)
This is something I would recommend to anyone! Do yourself this favour and learn about your environment and the luxuries it has to offer.
This looks amazing. We go foraging in the woodland but I’d love to forage by the sea. Gorgeous photos and gorgeous blog. Sarah x
